Description: Do you wonder what it might be like to interpret in the court system, but have little to no experience? In this workshop presented by June Prusak, CDI, CLIP-R, we will explore and discuss: The basic elements of the court system, legal jargon and introducce you to legal concepts in a simple and easily understandable way. The goal of this workshop is to allow interpreters to take a sneak peek into the legal system in order to decide whether to pursue further education. You will learn who the key players are in the courtroom and their duties in this setting. Pllus get a sneak preview of how interpreters function and some of the linguistic challenges they face when working with Deaf individuals in court. Students and professionals welcome! (0.6 GS CEUs) This workshop will be presented in American Sign Language. In conformance with local, state and federal statutes regarding disabilities, activities and facilities shall be accessible to all individuals. ICRID in an approved RID CMP sponsor for RID Continuing Education Activities. This General Studies program is offered for 0.6 CEUS at the little/none Content Knowledge Level.
Cost: $60.00 per Professional Interpreter; $30.00 per Student (with ID) - Refund policy: NO refunds after April 30, 2018.
