Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP)

SHIPChicago Hearing Society Manager of Social Services & Advocacy, Kim Eischen, is a certified counselor for the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP).

SHIP is a free statewide health insurance counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. SHIP is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Insurance.

Kim has been trained by the Illinois Department of Insurance to:

  • Educate consumers and answer questions about:
    • Medicare
    • Medicare Supplemental
    • Medicare Advantage Plans
    • Prescription drug coverage through Medicare and other sources
    • Medicare claims and appeals
    • Medicare beneficiary rights and guarantees
    • Medicare HMOs
    • Private fee for service and other health insurance
  • Organize and assist in filing Medicare and Medicare Supplemental claims
  • Analyze Medicare Supplemental policies

Medicare Part A (Hospital) and/or Part B (Medical) recipients can enroll or change a Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug) plan or Medicare Advantage Plan during this year’s open enrollment period from October 15, 2014 to December 7, 2014.

SHIP is not affiliated with any insurance company. SHIP counselors do not sell or solicit any type of insurance.
